2 kids drown in Nueva Ecija
RIZAL, Nueva Ecija – A 10-year-old boy who tried to save his drowning friend failed in his effort and both of them shared the same fate Tuesday afternoon in an irrigation canal here.
Police Chief Inspector Cornelio D. Ordanza, OIC police chief, identified the drowning victims as Erwin Melocotones, 10, and Diosdado Nicolas, 11, both residents of Sitio Bitis, Barangay Sta. Monica, this town.
Investigations showed that at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the victims, along with some youngsters, were bathing in an irrigation canal in their place when Nicolas suffered from cramps and “was shaking and shouting for help.”
At that instance, Melocotones tried to rescue his friend and got hold of the distressed Nicolas but, suddenly, both of them sank and disappeared into the deep part of the water.
As of press time, the barangay folks, along with the police, are still scouring the area for the bodies of the drowned children. (PNA)
