Politics has always been in the limelight ever since the country became a republic. Politicians and leaders just could not work well without the usual political bickering and whatever.
Almost always, a heated debate or near fistfight will take place when a bill, no matter how insignificant it maybe, is passed in both the Lower and Upper house. Many of our lawmakers just love to discuss issues until they become tired.
When the country was under the hands of the United States of America, Filipino leaders were silent in the background and majority of them were not even identified. The Americans did what it thought was right and the country moved forward in the right direction.
After more than half a century of Filipino rule, quarrels, misunderstanding, bickering, fighting and hatred marred the country’s politics. Its direction could not be well determined and politicians sprang up like mushroom fighting for supremacy.
Congress became an arena of bullfighting where whoever is the strongest win. Until today after a long time, politics role is strong and war of words prevails in all corners. What happened is the country could not move smoothly and progress is out of the horizon.
The country has long been an object of mismanagement committed by some of its leaders and people and this is the principal reason why it cannot get airborne a little bit towards advancement and prosperity. Forever we shall lag behind other Asian countries.
We cannot move forward. We are victims of excessive politics and our leaders do not seem to think about it. The ugly system of politics result in hunger, unemployment and poverty among the Filipinos.
See what kind of elections we have and the way some of our leaders are elected. Some politicians use money and goons to victory – - a clear betrayal of our democratic system. And the bad thing is that some of our people think this is part of life and the right thing to do.
This is terrible. It has been going on for years and no one seems surprised anymore, much less touch the issue even for discussion. Our youngsters grow up with the belief that things are right and they accept it the normal way.
A lot of people never realized that the practice to sell their votes would boomerang by way of unstoppable and massive corruption, poor services and all sorts of irregularities.
Can we stop this tragedy in our society? It would take all courage and determination to do it since it involve the whole nation, the entire citizens and more particularly the bad and the good leaders, as well the Church and civic leaders. It is the whole society.
