CAGAYAN de Oro City–Kagawads Ian Mark Nacaya and Juan Sia of the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) are now drafting a proposed ordinance that will mandate establishments selling guns and ammunitions to register all purchases made from them.

This, after the authors of the ordinance noted reports indicating that most crimes have been committed using unlicensed firearms.

Kagawad Nacaya, who is the Chairperson of the Committee on Police, Fire and Public Safety, said the name, address, age, goods bought and other information should be recorded by the company selling these fireams.

He said the move is in line with the campaign to boost the city’s peace and order drive.

The proposed law will make it easier for authorities to identify ownership of guns and ammunitions and other information, when these are needed.

During recent meetings, the Cagayan de Oro Police Office (COCPO) informed the committee that Oplan Bakal, a nationwide campaign of the Philippine National Police is on-going. (CIO/PIA-10)
