CAMIGUIN, Mambajao, Feb. 2 (PIA) – Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala mingles with more than 100 farmers and fisherfolks during the “Agri-Pinoy Stakeholders Forum” at the Mambajao Bagsakan Complex, yesterday.
Stakeholders took the opportunity to pour in their concerns to the secretary, mostly, centered on technology update.
He however assured stakeholders that more projects will pour in and has initially awarded a Php30 million worth of Farm to Market Road (FMR) project to the provincial government for implementation, this year.
Provincial Agriculture Officer, Rene Torion said the forum is heavily represented from upland to lowland farmers, vegetable farmers, fisherfolks, as well as representatives from the municipal federation of rural based organizations.
Sec. Alcala brought along presents for the guests and some lucky farmers, drawn by raffle, were able to take home special packs of agricultural goods.
Apart from the forum, the secretary also inspected and turned-over several agency funded projects in the province to include the Mambajao Bagsakan “Trade” Center, National Food Authority (NFA) Warehouse, Multi-Species Hatchery in Sagay town, and the Benoni Bangus Broodstock Development Project in Mahinog.
The Provincial Agriculture and Veterinary Office likewise officially presented and endorsed to Sec. Alcala proposed priority projects for the island-province.
After Camiguin, the secretary will tour around the region’s Mariculture Parks and is set to cover today, Misamis Oriental and Iligan City.
He will also turn-over assistance to farmers/fisherfolks affected by Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro City, tomorrow, February 3, before proceeding to Bukidnon for a tramline inspection (alternative transport system) at the Kabula bridge linking to Baungon Bukidnon. (PIA 10)
