Movie Review: The Heat

What it is: A comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Yet another version of the tried-and-tested formula featuring an unlikely, totally opposite duo.

In a nutshell: This is what happens when a no-nonsense FBI agent is forced to partner up with a crass, wise-cracking Boston detective.

The result:

Let me get this straight: I’m no fan of both actresses. I did laugh my ass off while watching McCarthy in Bridesmaids, but most of the time, I find her too much to handle. Which is why I never bothered watching Identity Thief.

This time however, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The duo was ludicrous but I found myself laughing out loud in several parts. The jokes were actually funny, and jaded as I was when I started watching, you can imagine my surprise at the laugh-out-loud moments. And there were plenty too.

McCarthy spouted hilarious lines after another, and Sandra Bullock wasn’t too bad either. In fact, she played the part of the straight-laced agent so well, and made it look so believable. Now you add the two of them and you get loads of laughs and some seriously solid comedic performance.

The verdict: If you aren’t put off by too much swearing, have an hour or so to spare, and love to just sit back and watch a fun movie that doesn’t require any action from your brain cells, then this is a great movie to watch. So sit tight, grab a tub of popcorn and laugh your head off.

Rating: 7 out of 10.
