COUNCILOR Lourdes Candy Darimbang on Monday yesterday expressed concern over the lack of facilities for an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the government-run J.R. Borja General Hospital.
During the regular session presided over by Councilor Ramon G. Tabor, the lady councilor reported that a nine year old boy, who was suffering from dengue was admitted at the city hospital. However, due to the lack of facilities, the child had to be transferred and eventually died.
The Power learned that the family of the patient tried to transfer him to a private hospital with an ICU but was asked to make a deposit, which they could not afford.
Councilor Darimbang lamented the incident and that some hospitals do not accept patients without downpayment.
The report was referred to the committee on health chaired by Councilor Dante Pajo for appropriate action.
