LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… `Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God’…” (Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, in John 8:47, the Holy Bible).
BIR TO PROBE INCREASES IN VALUE OF TRADERS’ PROPERTIES: Here is a dispatch coming from our Zamboanga City correspondent Ramon Quin, Jr.: “The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is launching its National Tax Campaign for 2014 on February 03 with a meeting of its 19 regional directors who will be tasked to investigate contractors, businessmen and professionals, to determine if they reported the increases of the values of their assets and properties.
“This was disclosed by lawyer Albert B. Alocilja, the revenue regional director for Zamboanga Peninsula, in an exclusive interview with this correspondent of the media forum `Kakampi Mo Ang Batas’. Alocilja said the 2014 tax campaign will be launched by the BIR at its Central Office in Quezon City, where the agency is expected to adopt `Register, File and Pay’ as its motto for this year to serve as a guide for BIR employees nationwide.
“ `Also to be given special emphasis for this year are businessmen who failed to submit reports of their purchases and sales,’ Alcocilja said. He said that the overall BIR objective for 2014 is to increase the number of people who will be registered as possible taxpayers.”
IS INTERNET TRANSLATION WORK FOR REAL? Will someone please tell me if a company offering translation jobs for Filipinos involving English materials (like commercials, emails, books and even movie scripts) purportedly coming from United States is legitimate and is not merely a scam?
I mean, the salaries being dangled for the translation work is quite fantastic, and the terms are just so simple any Filipino with a knowledge of even the most basic of English can seem to qualify, but there is one big hitch that may need verification and clarification. What is this hitch? Well, the company is asking that the prospective Filipino translators should pay it US$34.00, or roughly P1,700.00, allegedly for processing fee.
Many Filipinos will not mind paying these amounts for a job like this but, there is no way of verifying whether the company is real, and whether the translation jobs and the dizzying offers of compensation—allegedly up to US500.00 (or P25,000.00) for only a three-hour work per day—really exist. Supposing the company is not real, the jobs and the salaries are non-existent, the prospective Filipinos would have already lost P1,700.00?
JESUS SAYS HE IS “I AM”: In John 8 of the Bible, Jesus Christ made a stunning statement that even before Abraham was born, He, Jesus, was already in existence. This statement was not accepted by the Jews who heard Him say it, because at the time he made it, Jesus was not yet fifty years old, and so they believed He could not have been in existence before Abraham was born. Abraham was chronologically older than Jesus by 42 generations (see Matthew 1).
But Jesus stuck to what He said that He was already there before Abraham, saying He was in fact “I am” (the name that God the Father used to describe Himself in the Old Testament), prompting the Jews to pick up stones to throw at Him, thinking that He was blaspheming, because His statement meant that He, Jesus, is God.
Here is John 8 for the rest of this story: “Jesus replied, `… Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.’ `You are not yet fifty years old,’ they said to him, `and you have seen Abraham!’ `Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, `before Abraham was born, I am!’ At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds…”
