ILOILO CIY – The Iloilo City Government will be wrapped-up with a series of main events in the first quarter of this year.
This includes Chinese New Year on January 30, Jaro Annual Fiesta on February 2 and Paraw Regatta on the second Sunday of February.
City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that they are now preparing programs for these events including security plans as they are expecting more dignitaries to attend.
The Chinese New Year will cover the China town along Iznart Street, Jaro Fiesta will cover the whole district of Jaro while the Paraw Regatta will be at the Villa beach in Arevalo district here.
Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro, city director of Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), said more than 1, 000 uniformed personnel will be deployed around the metropolis during these occasions.
Floro said these policemen will help secure the occasion, conduct foot patrol, visibility and roving patrol especially during night time to discourage lawless elements from doing their modus operandi.
The city director added some uniformed policemen will be posted as VIP (Very Important Person) back-ups while others will be covert personnel for intelligence purposes.
The higher command of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) here has also ‘standby’ force at the headquarters in case of emergency. (PNA)
