Lim Lo Suy installed as Potentate of Agila Shriners of Mindanao

By CHENG ORDOƑEZ

Twenty seven years after he travelled through the hot sands of the Filipinas Shrine Club under the jurisdiction of the Aloha Temple of Hawaii, Illustrious Peter U. Lim Lo Suy assumes the highest and esteemed position of Potentate of the Agila Shriners of Mindanao, along with other officers during a solemn and fitting installation of officers for the Shrine Year 2014, Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Emerald Ballroom of the posh and luxurious Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Agila Shriners of Mindanao was under the jurisdiction of the Aloha Temple of Hawaii from 1986 before becoming the 195th temple chartered by the Shriners International on July 2, 2012.

The installation of Illustrious Peter Lim Lo Suy as Potentate, along with 12 other officers for the year 2014, drew a huge number of dignitaries and nobles from the international Masonic communities as well as from Luzon, Visayan and Mindanao.

Main guest of honor was MW Juanito G. Espino, Jr., Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines.

Past Potentate Terrence Derby and Past Potentate Pablo Ko, Jr. were the Intalling Officer and Installing Marshall, respectively, of the new set of officers.

The new Potentate earned the highest position in the Agila Shriners of Mindanao through distinguished Masonic career records as follows: Most Outstanding Worshipful Master in District 17 (2985); Most Outstanding Worshipful Master of the GLP (1986); and Most Outstanding District Deputy Grand Master in the Philippines (GLP Award) from 1998 to 1991, the only time this award was conferred on a Mason for three consecutive years.

Potentate Lim Lo Soy was accompanied by his wife, Doris, Son, Bryan, and daughters, Sharmaine and Lorraine.

The new set of officers installed with Potentate Lim Lo Suy are Chief Rabban Reynaldo Rabban, Assistant Rabban Henry Tan, High Priest and Prophet Romeo Bartolome, Oriental Guide Floren Vic Lumo, Treasurer Edwin Amene, Recorder Francis Celis, 1st Ceremonial Master Agapito Suan, Jr., 2nd Ceremonial Master Efren Marquez, Director Jonathan Montillo, Marshal Catalino Rodriguez, Jr., Captain of Guard Suharto Mangudadatu and Outer Guard Alipio Olita, Jr.

In his inaugural speech, Potentate Lim Lo Suy said that he intends to bring the dream of Mindanao Nobles to have the Shriner Hospital for Children in Mindanao, which will specially attend to burnt and crippled children, be realized.

The new Potentate Lim Lo Suy was elected as the first Chief Rabban, a position next in rank to Ill. Romeo A. Yu, who was elected as the first Potentate of the Agila Schriners and who was acknowledged by the new leadership for his dedication and effort to establish the Agila Shrine in Mindanao.

Past Potentate Yu was accorded the Past Potentate’s Jewel and the Calibri Jewel and Certificate from the International Past Potentates Association.

Grand Master Espino, Jr. expressed high esteemed on the new leadership of the Agila Shriners of Mindanao, even as he shares in the dream of fulfilling Agila Shriners’ dream seeing the first Shriner Hospital for Children stand in Mindanao.

In spite of his success in business, being an incorporator-distributor of Toyota Cagayan de Oro, Inc, among others, his Masonic life is so colorful that he was crowned, during his stint as Grand Oriental Chair, by the Supreme Council of Sovereign Grand Inspectors General of the Thirty Third and Last Degree Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of the Republic of the Philippines as the Sovereign Grand Inspector General for the Orient of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon, a position he still occupies today.

Nobles from various national and international communities expressed high regard for the new Potentate for being humble, amiable, caring and a man of service, truly an epitome of a great Masonic leader worthy of emulation and respect.

“Care for the less fortunate, especially children who suffer from burns and crippling diseases” is the institutional calling of the Agila Shriners of Mindanao, hence, Potentate Lim Lo Suy has pledged to pursue it with the noble intention of seeing himself and his brethren carrying in their arms sick children towards a Shriner Hospital for Children in Mindanao.

“I, therefore, call on the nobles to help me realize our dream to bring a Shriner hospital for crippled children closer to home, particularly here in Mindanao,” Potentate Lim Lo Suy said.

Let us roll up our sleeves and work together to make the dream a reality,” Potentate Lim Lo Suy said. “Having our own Agila temple is a remarkable achievement in itself, but it needs to be founded on a noble cause otherwise it becomes meaningless and empty,” he said.

In the world out there, there are countless children crying out for help who cannot make out beyond their means, he said.

“Let each one of us carry a crippled child in our arms and uphold the true image of a Schriner. I cannot do it alone,” he said.

“Now more than ever, your cooperation and support are crucial if we are to make our newly built Agila temple relevant to the needs of the time,” newly installed Potentate Lim Lo Suy said.
