DENR officials release green sea turtle in Sorsogon town waters

BACON DISTRICT, Sorsogon City – Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources led by Bicol Regional Executive Director Gilbert Gonzales on Friday morning released a green sea turtle in the waters of Barangay Caricaran here.
The turtle was found Thursday in the sea of Barangay Abuyog, also of this city, by two fishermen, Gonzales said. (more…)
10 dogs saved in Nueva Ecija

SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija – Ten “askal” dogs – locally raised species – destined for slaughter and whose meat is intended for sale and public consumption – were intercepted Thursday evening by the police and an animal foundation and saved from extinction.
Chief Inspector Renato C. Morales, town chief of police, said that the illegal trade of animals here was conveyed to their office by the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) and promptly acted upon by the local police authorities that resulted in the apprehension of the guilty parties. (more…)
BCPO chief stays until tour ends

BAGUIO CITY – Baguio City mayor Mauricio Domogan is happy about the retention of Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) director Jesus Cambay until his tour of duty ends in September this year.
In his regular “Ugnayan” program last Wednesday, Domogan claimed he was able to talk to Police Regional Office (PRO) – Cordillera chief Isagani Nerez and convinced him to postpone his decision to replace Cambay with P/Sr Supt Rolando Miranda on March 1. (more…)
P23.3M CSR project of Pagudpud wind farm to benefit host communities

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – The North Luzon Renewable Energy Corporation (NLREC) bared on Thursday their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project worth P23.3 million to benefit host communities over the next three years.
It was in response to a provincial ordinance mandating all business investors to submit a detailed list of their CSR projects prior to endorsement. (more…)
Dengue cases in Calbayog down in 2013

CALBAYOG CITY , Samar – Reported dengue cases in this city dropped from 125 in 2012 to 69 in 2013.
According to Grace Campo of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance, the data is based on confined cases at the three hospitals in the city. Not included were those cases not admitted in health facilities and those directly brought to the regional hospital in Tacloban City . (more…)
Price of commercial rice in Bataan increases by P2-P3 a kilo; NFA hopeful to drop by March

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The National Food Authority (NFA) provincial office here assured Thursday of the availability of both NFA and commercial rice in the province although noting that the price of commercial rice shoot up from P2 to P3 per kilo.
“There is a slight movement in the price of commercial rice which is expected but we are hopeful it will go down little by little on March when harvest begins in Bataan,” NFA provincial manager Adelaida Nuestro said. (more…)
38 South Cotabato cops get new Glock 17 pistols

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The Police Regional Office 12 has delivered an initial 38 brand new Glock 17 service pistols to the South Cotabato Provincial Police Office as part of its continuing modernization program.
Senior Supt. Jose Briones, South Cotabato police director, said Friday the new service pistols were released to their office on Thursday by regional police officials and personnel led by acting regional director Chief Supt. Lester Camba. (more…)
PNP-12 orders police chiefs to ‘shape up’ or face relief

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The Police Regional Office 12 has given all provincial, city and municipal police chiefs in the region until next month to improve their performance in terms of resolving crime incidents in their areas of responsibility or face possible relief.
Chief Supt. Lester Camba, Region 12 police director, said Friday he issued the directive to challenge local police chiefs to work harder and perform better in accomplishing their mandates, especially in deterring the occurrence of various crimes and other related activities. (more…)
DA to establish organic demo farms in Sorsogon

PILI, Camarines Sur – Through a P1.1-million fund approved by Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso Alcala, three organic demonstration farms will be established in Sorsogon province, according to the top official of the agency’s Regional Field Unit (RFU) for Bicol based here.
Abelardo Bragas, DA’s regional executive director, on Thursday said the demo farms to be established on 60 hectares of rice land in the municipalities of Casiguran, Donsol and Sta. Magdalena are aimed at further popularizing organic farming among agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in the province. (more…)
Solon asks Gov. Defensor to let congressional inquiry finish before filing case vs Kuan Yu

ILOILO CITY – Iloilo Fifth District Rep. Niel Tupas, Jr. has asked Governor Arthur Defensor to let their congressional inquiry on the much delayed oil spill cleanup operations of the Kuan Yu Global Technologies Inc. finish first before filing a case against the company.
Tupas, in an interview Friday, told the Philippines News Agency the Congressional Committee on Energy will have its last hearing after a series of hearings by the next two weeks and so he is asking Gov. Defensor to just wait and then make a decision as to what next move to make. (more…)
