ARITAO, Nueva Vizcaya – At least 21 barangays in this town recently received funding assistance from the provincial government.
Under the yearly funding assistance dubbed as Barangay Development Assistance Fund (BDAF), each barangay captain was given P50,000. (more…)

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – Four Aeta natives, three of them women, on Monday took their oath as new members of the barangay and municipal councils in this town.
Joel Abraham as councilor or member of the Sangguniang Bayan and village councilmen Ramelita Arojado of Tubo-Tubo, Olivia Clemente of Payangan and Esmeralda Garcia of Bayan-Bayanan took their oath before town mayor Maria Angela “Gila” Garcia after the flag-raising ceremony. (more…)

ILOILO – Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. honored the thousands of Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs) in this province on Monday for their countless acts of courage and selflessness during the onslaught of super typhoon “Yolanda” last year.
“Although you, too, suffered from the typhoon, you continue to help and serve your fellowmen without any doubt or hesitation. From the deepest recesses of my heart, I thank and hail all of you,” Defensor said during the celebration of BSPO Day in Punta Villa Resort, Iloilo City. (more…)
Gun-for-hire member in Nueva Ecija slain in shootout

TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – An alleged member of a notorious gun-for-hire group operating in the province was killed Sunday in a shootout with a team police operatives in a remote village here.
Police intelligence reports said that the group, numbering at least four, were on a liquidation mission to “assassinate an unknown businessman” from this town. (more…)
PRO-9 to receive new communication equipment

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is providing new communication equipment to the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) to beef up the law enforcement and humanitarian operations here in the region.
Insp. Alexander Abuel of the PRO-9 Communication Electronics Service (PRO-CES) said the new equipment includes handheld radios with base, repeaters and mobile radios for police cars. (more…)
DOLE-12 releases P3.44M in SouthCot livelihood packages

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 12 released around P3.44-million worth of livelihood packages on Monday to some 528 informal workers in South Cotabato province.
Ofelia Domingo, DOLE Region 12 director, said the livelihood packages were part of the agency’s continuing interventions to help uplift the conditions of poor informal workers within the region’s four provinces and five cities. (more…)

CAMP MELCHOR DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela – The 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (5ID-PA), 1st Light Armor Cavalry Troop is set to distribute for free at least more than 100 pairs of slippers to identified indigent children in this town.
Army Sergeant Louie Tamayo of the 5ID Light Armor Cavalry Troop, said the slippers were turned over to them by the Our Lady of La Sallete school of Cabatuan over the weekend. (more…)

Strong rain puts on hold possibility of forest fires in Cordilleras

BAGUIO CITY – A heavy downpour was experienced Sunday night here and various areas of Benguet and Mountain Province that the possibility of forest fires was put on hold for a few days, according to the monitoring report of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Abner Villanueva, public information officer of the DENR here said all measures to protect the more than 100-square kilometer watersheds in the area are taken as the effects of the drought are still critical until the end of next month. (more…)
Iloilo, Bacolod to help promote R-12 tourist destinations

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Five major travel and tour operators based in the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod have signified to help promote various tourist destinations in Region 12 to the domestic and international tourism markets.
Nelly Nita Dillera, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 12 director, said Monday the group initially booked a visit to the region this summer to establish linkages with local resorts, hotels and other industry players. (more…)
