RDC-7 backs SK reform measure

TAGBILARAN CITY – A new body to represent the voice of the youth in development councils has been pushed for meaningful participation of the youth in nation building.
This time, it no longer has to be the monopoly of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).
The National Youth Commission pushed for the passage of the Local Youth Development Empowerment Act (LYDEA), “which will institutionalize Local Development Councils and reform the SK which in the end will strengthen accountability and transparency in governance through youth elections. (more…)
Zamboecozone export value index marks significant increase

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport (Zamboecozone) export value index showed a significant increase for the first five months of this year compared to the same period of last year.
Zamboecozone Chairman and Administrator Christopher Lawrence Arnuco said Monday that the total export value since January to May this year has reached .68 million, which translates to an almost 38 percent increase compared to the same period last year of .22 million export value. (more…)
Cebu’s fourth district to get seven more trial courts, solon says

CEBU CITY – Rep. Benhur Salimbangon (Cebu, fourth district) said the House of Representatives has approved his bill seeking the creation of seven more trial courts in his district.
Salimbangon said House Bill No. 4490 which he authored has been transmitted to the Senate.
Under the bill, an additional branch of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) will be created in Bogo City and six additional branches of the Municipal Trial Court (MTC) with seats in the towns of Daanbantayan, Madridejos, San Remigio, Tabogon, Tabuelan, and Sta. Leyte gov up to challenges of being RDC chair

TACLOBAN CITY – Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominic Petilla expressed confidence of leading the region’s highest policy making body should he get the approval of President Benigno Aquino III.
The governor was the fourth nominee from the government sector. Others included Northern Samar Governor Jose L. Ong, Palo Mayor Remedios Petilla and Baybay City Mayor Carmen Cari. (more…)

MANILA – Like the country’s little boys and girls who need protection from child abuse, men and women in their senior age or twilight years also have to be protected from maltreatment by others.
Sad to say, there seems to be no adequate laws or policies that will protect older persons from institutional, community and domestic abuse and violence during these fast changing times as can be gleaned from the views expressed by various groups during a Forum on Elder Abuse held two weeks ago in Quezon City. Damaged bridges in Bohol pushed for foreign funding

TAGBILARAN CITY – Damaged bridges in Bohol up for replacement and those for repair and rehabilitation got the endorsement of the Regional Development Council for foreign funding.
Recommended for replacement are the Abatan Bridge in Maribojoc-Cortes, Moalong Bridge in Loon, Tagbuane Bridge in Alburquerque, Desamparados Bridge in Calape and Tultugan Bridge in Calape. (more…)
N. Cotabato honors oldest building as it celebrates 100th founding anniversary

KIDAPAWAN CITY – The provincial government of North Cotabato Sunday honored a pre-World War II school building in Midsayap town as part of the highlights of the celebration of the province’s 100th year foundationn this year.
The Gabaldon Building of the Midsayap Pilot Elementary School (MPES) in Poblacion 3, Midsayap, North Cotabato built in 1936 during the Commonwealth era was conferred the Centennial Edifice award after the search for oldest structure in the province was launched by the Provincial Government of North Cotabato. Simple activities mark 125th Tacloban City fiesta

TACLOBAN CITY – The 125th fiesta celebration of Tacloban City on Monday started with a pontifical mass at the Rizal Park, just across the Sto. Niño Church that is now ongoing repair, and will cap this evening with a basketball exhibition game.
Earlier, the city government had announced that activities in line with the fiesta celebration were chosen in such a way that it will not incur expenses on the part of the local government unit (LGU).
This year’s celebration is focused on thanksgiving to the Holy Child Jesus after typhoon “Yolanda.” (more…)
Boy, 7, drowns in open pit filled with water

LEGAZPI CITY – A seven-year-old Grade 1 male pupil was found by his mother and village officials floating and lifeless in an open pit that will be made into a human waste depository on Sunday night in Barangay Dinapa, Castilla, Sorsogon.
A police report identified the victim as Alvin Mabini, 7, a Grade 1 pupil of the Dinapa Elementary School and resident of the village. (more…)
Patient, brother die when ambulance falls into ravine in Catanduanes

LEGAZPI CITY – Two brothers did not reach the Eastern Bicol Medical Center alive after the ambulance they were riding in and being driven by a cousin fell into a ravine along the national road in Bato, Catanduanes on Sunday night.
A police report identified the victims as Tito Cabrera, 42, and his brother, Joey, 27 — both residents of Barangay Antipolo , Bagamanoc , Catanduanes.
The report said the victims were on their way to the hospital in Virac town on board the ambulance of the Rural Health Unit of Bagamanoc to bring the ailing Joey when the accident happened at about 9:35 p.m. in Sitio Balongbong, Barangay Sibacungan in Bato town. (more…)
