Gov’t taps communities in maintenance of US-funded road

TACLOBAN CITY — The national government will carry out a Php4.17-million community-based maintenance project in Samar for the road constructed by the United States Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and community organizations in Samar signed today a contract for road maintenance activities at the DSWD regional office here. (more…)

SALCEDO, Eastern Samar — Concerned of the welfare of young learners, 50-year-old Evelyn Padullo asked for assistance to replace copies of certificate of live births of her 23 pupils in Naparaan Elementary School.
Padullo, in her 21 years of teaching career has never thought of seeking help to reconstruct destroyed civil registration records, whose primary responsibility lies on the hands of poor parents. (more…)

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – The local government has provided hygiene stuffs to the more than 400 inmates at the local detention facility here.
Senior Insp. Nathaniel Aljas, jail warden, said Friday that Mayor Romeo Pulmones personally distributed the hygiene stuffs during the latter’s visit Wednesday afternoon. (more…)
SM Foundation launches farmers training program in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – More than 500 farmers in the province will benefit from the Farmers Training Program (Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan) offered by SM Foundation.

Mandaue City to buy more traffic lights, CCTV cams worth Php39M

MANDAUE CITY — The Mandaue City Government will spend another Php39 million to install more traffic lights and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras around the city, an official said.
Christer Cosedo, Mandaue City Management Information System Office chief, said the city aims to set up the traffic lights and CCTV cameras before the start of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit meetings in Cebu later this year. (more…)

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Gov. Amado Espino Jr. further stimulated the campaign against illegal drugs when he asked all local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan to set aside from 1.5 to 0.5 percent of their annual budgets to fund the campaign against illegal drugs which is actually provided for in the Dangerous Drugs Act which he co-authored while still in Congress.
Espino said during the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order (POC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) which he both heads on Wednesday that he will ask the provincial board to compel all LGUs in Pangasinan to allot funds from their annual budgets for the fight against illegal drugs. COTABATO CITY — A 16-year-old civilian named Saat Manadal of Barangay Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao is still fighting for his life days after he was hit by stray bullets at the height of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) and police encounter on Sunday.
Manadal underwent surgical operation Thursday to remove bullets form his chest and remained at the intensive care unit of the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC). (more…)

Lanao del Norte provincial employees distributed food packs to mental health patients at Happy Home Foundation, Inc., in Maramag town, Bukidnon province.
Tubod, Lanaodel Norte – Employees of the Provincial Information Office (PIO), Provincial Community Affairs Office (PCAO) and Project Management Office(PMO) visited the mental health patients treated at the Happy Home Foundation, Inc., in Maramag town, Bukidnon province.
More than thirty provincial employees of the Lanao del Norte LGU endured the 6-hour travel from the capital town of Tubod to the progressive town of Maramag on December 19, 2014 to share their blessings and simple gifts to the often neglected and forgotten patients of said mental health facility. VIRAC, Catanduanes – Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) classmates of slain Special Action Force (SAF) officer Senior Insp. Max Jim Ramirez Tria who are assigned in Bicol are now in the island province of Catanduanes to pay respect and grieve with his family.
About 20 of them, all police officers mostly assigned as polices station commanders in various parts of the region sailed together to the island as the weather on Thursday stabilizes for a smooth ferry boat trip following days of turbulent seas. (more…)

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The chief of police in one of the 16 municipalities in Zamboanga Sibugay died due to cardiac arrest while in line of duty.
Senior Insp. Danilo Pailden, police chief of Payao, suddenly collapsed around 1 a.m. Friday while attending activities in Barangay Binangonan, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay. (more…)
