City gov’t continues repairs of RAY-funded buildings
TACLOBAN CITY -– Reconstruction and repair of government offices and infrastructures in this typhoon-ravaged city is on progress.
Project Inspector Danilo Makabingkel of the city engineering office said the repairs started last year. Some are even finished as of this week.
Among those that were finished are the City Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENRO), Cooperative Building, Evacuation Center Building 1 and 2, Bagsakan (trading) Building, Legislative Building, Commission on Audit, Balyuan Convention Center, Annex A market Building, Astrodome, and City Hall.
Meanwhile, the City Court Building with an allocated budget of PHP4,9 million, the Fish Stall with an allotted amount of PHP10.58 million, the proposed extension of the Tacloban City Hall with PHP3.06 million, the Kanhuraw Business Center with PHP3.93 million, the construction of two-storey market buildings in New Kawayan and Magallanes districts with PHP7 million and PHP9.72million, respectively, are currently on the phase of reconstruction.
“These are projects of the city government. The funding of these repairs comes from the Department of Interior and Local Government. This is being repaired for the benefit of the people,” Makabingkel said.
Specifically, the project is funded through the Reconstruction Assistance on Yolanda (RAY) funds from DILG.
Also, he added that the second batch of repairs of village halls, gymnasiums, and basketball courts within the city are to start soon.
These on-going repairs are expected to be completed this year heeding the central government’s order to expedite reconstruction activities. (PNA)
