A night filled with jubilation saw the rise of the ambassadress of goodwill and everything worth celebrating about Tagum City, as a jam-packed venue erupted in loud cheers upon the announcement of the first-ever Mutya ng Tagum City.
Filipina-American Jessica Anna Marie Bonney, the 19-year old stunner with a dimpled smile, took home the crown and bested nine others in the competition marked with pomp and splendor, beauty and intelligence.
Held at the RDR gymnasium on November 21, 2013, the event revived the city’s search for a muse that embodies the Tagumeña package which remained dormant for two decades until the current administration of Mayor Allan L. Rellon brought it back to life this year.
Searching for that ultimate lass went through a rigorous screening process—making it a one-of-a-kind beauty pageant that not only showcased the candidate’s beauty but is also anchored on their commitment to take part in community-building.
Each of the candidates submitted a project proposal in line with the EAGLE WINGS development thrusts of the current administration, the winner of which shall be financed by the local government. The 10-point development thrust served as a compass for the Rellon Administration in fulfilling its social contract with the people.
Bonney, a nursing student of University of Mindanao, shared she will be focusing on promoting livelihood and tourism development throughout her one-year reign as Mutya.
Runners up in the competition, in order, are Karen Garcia, Christine Alvarez, Marjessa Flor Dublin and Chass Manuel.
Thursday night’s smooth-flowing five-hour event, hosted by ABS-CBN’s Rovic Cuasito and Xylee Labastida of LGU Tagum, was loaded with sing-and-dance performances and was top-billed by celebrity Markki Stroem. (Louie Lapat of CIO Tagum)
