DAGUPAN CITY — The late pre-war mayor of Dagupan was honored with the construction of a two- storey school building consisting of eight classrooms last Tuesday of the Judge Jose De Venecia Senior Memorial National High School (JJDVSMNHS).
The inauguration was spearheaded by fourth district representative Gina De Venecia and husband former speaker of the House Jose De Venecia Jr., one of the grandchildren of the late Dagupan mayor.
It was Rep.De Venecia who initiated the project at the request of pupils and teachers.
Former Speaker De Venecia said the P9.6 million worth school building was named after his grandfather who was mayor of the city from 1916 to 1918 and 1925 to 1926.
It was during Guillermo De Venecia’s term that the present Dagupan City hall was built and has not yet been replaced.
“I hope this new structures will inspire you to study hard as not everyone is given the support from parents and the government and the opportunity to finish their studies”, said Rep. De Venecia as she addressed the students of JJDVMNHS.
The Guillermo De Venecia building will serve as an extension to the primary school building of the high school.
Meanwhile, Rep. De Venecia announced the passage of housebill 4632, seeking to make JJDVMNHS the first technical- vocational high school in Pangasinan.
“Let us call on the Senate to tackle the house bill and make this into a law as this will open opportunity for employment to youths even after they finish high school”, said Rep. De Venecia. (PNA)
