Pangasinan solon assures continuous educational assistance sans PDAF
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Pangasinan Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil of the 2nd district has assured his 200 scholars of continuous educational assistance despite the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of lawmakers.
Bataoil made the assurance to allay fears of scholars and their parents of not being able to continue their schooling because of the abolition of PDAF of congressmen and senators. The Supreme Court has ruled that PDAF is unconstitutional.
In the past years, the Pangasinan solon has used his PDAF for the scholarship program of poor but deserving students in his district.
In a recent meeting and orientation with his scholars at the Purok Marcela Resort here, Bataoil informed the scholars of the Student Financial Assistance Programs (STUFAPS), the new and enhanced scholarship program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The program, he said, aims at providing various scholarships to “poor but deserving students” in authorized public and private colleges and universities in the country.
STUFAPS, however, requires the students to choose among the courses under the priority programs of the government.
Bataoil said that his scholars can be transferred to the new scholarship system, provided that they meet the requirements and conditions.
The official’s office has shouldered the tuition fees of the students in the second semester of the year even without PDAF.(PNA)
