POPCOM Caraga joins 100-millionth Filipino watch
BUTUAN CITY – The Commission On Population (POPCOM) regional office here has a close look on all government-run hospitals and health facilities here in the region as the probable host of the 100-millionth Filipino baby on July 27 at 12:06 a.m.
In its news advisory released on Wednesday, it said that POPCOM is taking the lead in anticipating the birth of the 100-millionth baby expected to be born on the said date and time “for this marks another milestone in the country’s population count.”
POPCOM said that under the search mechanics, the local government units with its provincial and city population health officers, the Department of Health, Philhealth and selected program partners will also be taking part of the monitoring.
POPCOM 13 Regional Director Alexander Makinano said that the “birth of the 100-millionth Filipino baby will mark a celebration of life and a prospect for another productive citizen if proper care for his or her growth will be accorded sustainably.”
The event signifies a happy as well as challenging demographic moment in the lives of every Filipino, Makinano added. The 100-millionth Filipino mark the prospect of the quantitatively significant labor force that can propel the country towards sustainable economic development.

The projected count of the 100-millionth baby is based only on population count in the country by the Philippine Statistics Authority, not counting the Filipino overseas.
