Rehabilitation of Baguio athletic bowl project up for bidding
BAGUIO CITY – The PHP 14.7 million repair and rehabilitation of the city’s Athletic Bowl will commence this month after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the project is up for bidding.
The scope of the rehabilitation work was presented to the City Council Monday by DPWH City District Engineer Alexander Castaneda, Project Engineer Cesario Rillera and OIC City Buildings and Architecture Officer Johnny Degay.
In an interview Friday, Degay said the implementing agency explained that the PHP 14.7 million rehabilitation and repair fund only covers 96 linear meters of the total 128 linear meter bleachers of the facility.
He said the project entails the demolition of the entire structure and replacing the same with a more sturdy one that would meet required standards.
The posts and roofing are dilapidated and will be replaced with new ones to make it safer but it should be within the budget limit of PHP 14.7 million, he said.
The funding was initiated by Baguio City representative Nicasio Aliping Jr in time for the staging of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet by February 2015.
Part of the development will be the construction of multi-purpose quarters below the bleachers mainly for use of athletes.
The spaces will cover at least four spans of the entire bleachers and would house an extension office for the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), Degay added.
Degay said the city council endorsed the commencement of the project with the condition that spaces beneath the bleachers after rehabilitation should only be utilized for sports purposes. (PNA)
