RPOC seeks OPAPP aid to revitalize Lantad peace development initiatives
BALINGASAG, Misamis Oriental, April 6 (PIA) — The Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Northern Mindanao has requested the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) to include revitalization of Sitio Lantad Peace and Development Initiatives for funding support.
RPOC, in its resolution addressed to Secretary Teresita Quintos-Deles of the OPAPP, stated that Misamis Oriental as a Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA)-covered province needs to outsource funding support in order to keep sitio Lantad in its momentum of progress.
Sitio Lantad which is a fertile valley in the remote and mountainous fringes of barangay Kibanban, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental used to be infamous “no man’s land” in Region 10 due to the observable government neglect and influential presence of communist command post and hardened supporters.
In coordination with national line agencies and civil society organizations, the provincial government of Misamis Oriental programmed interventions in the area since 2007 which resulted to the positive transformation of sitio Lantad.
However, change in national leadership and in local political structure subsequently affected the prioritization of sitio Lantad as a local initiative resulting in the regression of the area, most notable of which is the poor road condition.
Sitio Lantad which was once a seat of intense fighting between the military combatants and the communist guerrillas gradually transformed into a vibrant community with the collaborative efforts of the national government agencies, provincial/municipal/barangay governments and non-government organizations.
The current scenario in sitio Lantad is susceptible to revert to its old precarious state. To prevent its recurrence, ensuring a stable peace and order condition in the area should be given utmost importance. There is, therefore, a need to monitor government interventions in the area.
Meanwhile, the municipal planning and development office of Balingasag is recommended for the task. Hence a resolution is passed requesting the municipality of Balingasag, thru the municipal planning and development office, to provide the regional peace and order council (RPOC$ with updates on municipal government interventions revitalizing sitio Lantad Peace and Development. -EOR/PIA
