Skills competition highlights World Teachers Day celebration in Misoc
OROQUIETA City, Misamis Occidental––A skills competition for teachers, school heads and education program supervisors (EPS) was conducted by the Department of Education, Division of Misamis Occidental in celebration of the 2013 World Teachers Day.
Held at the Oroquieta City Town Center, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., October 4, the competition aims to choose the best writers, speakers, singers and dancers who will represent the division in the regional level competition in Cagayan de Oro City, this coming October 24, Dr. Jonathan S. Dela Peňa, Schools Division Superintendent, said.
Dela Peña said the writing skill competition using English as medium for the teacher and school head categories will have one (1) contestant each from the elementary and secondary levels, while the supervisory category will have one (1) contestant per district, while the speaking skills competition, also in English, will have one (1) contestant per category.
The hip hop dance competition for teachers will be composed of 10 members per district, ballroom dancing for school heads, one (1) pair per district and the Voice of Misamis Occidental for Supervisors, two (2) contestants per cluster.
Particularly, for the hip hop dancing competition, the groups, who could be all male or female or mixed, are given 3-5 minutes to finish their performance with any kind of hip hop dance : Krumping, break dance, locking, popping, c-walk, etc
For ballroom dancing, each district will come up with one (1) pair of school heads, elementary and/or secondary, who are actually serving in that district, with each pair composed of a male and a female, each.
The presentation will be composed of three (3) mixed Latin dances and standard dance, tango, cha-cha and jive or boogie, with each dance allotted 2 minutes or a total of six (6) minutes dance presentation.
The competition will be judged based on coordination and style, basic steps, originality, expression and precision, choreography, performance or mastery and skill, dress code with an Award for Best in Ballroom Dancing Costume. (RCA/PIA10-Misamis Occidental)
