THE city of Cagayan de Oro will no longer be relying in regard to using the Pelaez Sports Complex as two Mindanao-based lawmakers are filing a new measure that would pave for the construction of a sports complex in the city.
This as Cagayan de Oro second district Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez and Partylist Abante Mindanao Rep. Maximo B. Rodriguez Jr. filed a bill “authorizing the construction of a sports complex in Cagayan de Oro City and appropriating funds therefor.”
In filing the new bill the lawmakers cited Article XIV, Section 19 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution provides that: “The State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.”
Involvement in sports is very important for everyone specially the children, said the lawmaker in their explanatory note adding, “it helps in strengthening and toning the muscles and bones in the body.”
They added: “It teaches kids the importance of team works and they learn to work in groups at an early age and hopefully they can use it when they actually start working and start to build relationships.”
Also, sports make people mentally strong because it teaches about success and failure which is an important life lesson. It build confidence and enhances the decision making process of individuals.
Aside from these, participating in sports is a very constructive use of time instead of just lounging around which could sometimes leads children and even adults to the use of prohibited drugs.
As such, it is important for a city to have a sports complex where its citizens can actively participate in different sports programs and where they can spend their free time constructively by working out, building relationships and improving one’s personal health.
