Tubungan town to host 2014 Peace Jamborette

ILOILO CITY — The town of Tubungan is set to host the 2014 Iloilo (Confessor) Council Peace Jamborette at Camp Miguel Tagamolila, October 1 to 5.
Marlin Tagudar, information officer of the town said about 5,000 scouts and scouters are expected to join the event anchored on the theme “Scouting for the Environment,” hammering also on subthemes for environmental education, development education and peace education.
Tagudar said the above are also the advocacies of the local government led by Mayor Vicente Gargaritano, who is also this year’s Camp Chief of the jamborette.
The five-day activity will have its grand opening ceremonies on October 1 and will feature some special events like Tree Planting, a Holy Mass, Talent Presentations highlighting culture an arts, Fancy Drill, Skill O’ Rama, Run for Peace, Gilwell Reunion, Eagle Scouts Conclave, Rover Fellowship and Grand Campfire ceremonies.
Other special events include Outdoor Exploration, map and compass orienteering, reading trail signs and hiking, and other skills challenge, fun games and learning Asian martial arts.
Meanwhile, the main events will feature Arts and Crafts, a handicraft project which will introduce the town’s One-Town One-Product, which is coconut.
The scouts will also be exposed to the host municipality, its plans, programs and projects, the economy, governance and tourism and business potentials.
Tagudar said the scouts will also be oriented on the initiatives of the Messengers of Peace Global Network and how they can partner with the organization, and on topics like climate change and disaster preparedness.
Experts from the local government will also teach the scouts how ro make liquid fertilizers.
Meanwhile, Mayor Gargaritano said that scouting has made him the better person that he is now.
Scouting 2014 is being supported bythe Department of Education through the Schools Division Superintendent Myrna Castillo, Division of Iloilo Commissioner; Eric Dumdumaya, Council Scout Executive; Nelly Valerio, Division Superintendent City Council Commissioner; and Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog, Chairman, Boy Scouts of the Philippines (Confesor) Council.
